Aerie REALtreat 2019
It can often seem easier to just throw a filter over ourselves and our lives than it is to show up authentically and embrace who we really are. And our digital world is making it increasingly easier to do just that, what with all the facetune and presets. But a lot of us are beginning to realize that filtering ourselves down just to fit into some cultural standard is problematic, and thankfully, a new wave of realness is starting to gain traction. More and more people are beginning to say goodbye to strict standards in favour of sharing a more authentic version of themselves, and we are so here for it!
And that’s why we partnered with Aerie and their incredible #aeireREAL role models (which includes Busy Phillips and Jameela Jamil …just to name a few) to host the first-ever Aeire REALtreat in Los Angeles. It was a day full of honest conversations on what it means to love yourself, what courage looks like, the importance of community and how we can all begin to be a little bit more real in each of our lives.
The energy was inclusive, empowering and full of passion all day long, and everybody walked away feeling inspired to be an advocate for realness in everyday life. If you couldn’t make it to the Rolling Greens Nursery in DTLA or if you just wanted to relive a little bit of the magic from that day, we’ve got you covered with all sorts of content documenting what went down.
As a crowd favorite on NBC’s The Good Place, Jameela Jamil is a Hollywood icon. But she’s perhaps just as well-known for her outspoken voice in challenging impossible body standards, pushing the notion that women are, in fact, more than their weight and appearance. She stands for a mission we can all get behind, and we were so thrilled to have had her.
Actress, author, producer and director, Busy Philipps, knows first hand the power that comes from being real and speaking truth to power. Weather it be through her infamously candid instagram stories, the refreshing honesty of her memoir or her vulnerable fight for abortion rights, she proves over and over again that sharing your truth creates meaningful impacts. You can count on her to be 100% unfiltered at all times and we love it.
Jenna Kutcher, photographer, blogger, podcast host, instagram pro and new mama, is the absolute queen of keeping it real. In an over filtered world she stands out as some one who is unafraid to share the less than perfect moments of her journey. Her vulnerability has built a larger than life community of women that is all about empowering and raising one another up.
Iskra Lawerence is a model, self care advocate and someone who knows that when you embrace how perfectly imperfect you are, success often follows. Tired of always trying to change the body she was in she decided instead to start fighting for change in the industry and found her voice as an advocate. Since than she has become a role model for what it means to love yourself and know that you are more than enough.
