Diversity.

It’s been a hot topic in the workplace for years now—how to achieve it and how to hold onto it—yet despite all our talk of equal pay and confronting unconscious bias, actually achieving it seems to be more difficult than anticipated. And the delay is costing us money. In fact, according to a recent study, diverse companies produce 19% more revenue due to innovation. Just like in nature where biodiversity is an important key to the functioning of the planet, diversity leads to new ideas which in turn leads to profit.

But there’s one industry that has been left out of the diversity conversation: wellness!

In response to the lack of diversity in the health and wellness space, more Black womxn and womxn of color are taking their healing into their own hands and creating safe spaces, brands, and practices dedicated to wellness.

That’s why we partnered with our friends at Califia—one of the fastest-growing, independent, natural product companies in the U.S.—to amplify their mission of creating newer, better forms of nourishment to work towards a food system that is inclusive, equitable and sustainable. In fact, the company was inspired by the majestic warrior and woman of color, Queen Califia who is best known as the namesake for our home state of California. Founder and native Californian, Greg Steltenpohl, was drawn to the mythical Queen’s pursuit of a life full of health, renewal, and love.To do that, we’ve invited four womxn to our panel conversation today who have created inclusive platforms that promote wellness and self-care within the Black Indigienous and People of Color communities to discuss how we can all plant the future, together.
