Inclusivity & Representation Within the Influencer Space

According to a recent study on the state of fashion, nearly "two-thirds of consumers are self-proclaimed “belief-driven buyers.”

What does this mean? Well, these shoppers will choose, switch, avoid, or boycott a brand based on its stand on societal issues. They look beyond stylish imagery to determine if a brand’s substance really aligns with their own values.

But it’s not just consumers, employees are also putting increasing pressure on fashion companies to go beyond performative action and become proactive advocates of diversity and inclusion.

While we are already seeing more companies put D&I on their high priority list—from leadership to culture—the study states that their initiatives will also come under increasing scrutiny in terms of sincerity and results. Because the inclusivity movement is so much more than just good marketing.

Stitch Fix has long recognized that there is significant work to do to promote a more equitable and diverse retail landscape. They have been longtime champions for size inclusivity, and as part of a bigger commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity they most recently launched a grant and mentorship called Elevate to support Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) entrepreneurs in fashion at an early stage of business growth.
