As the founder of the diversity initiative Diversify the Stage Noelle Scaggs is on a mission to make career opportunities in music more accessible to People of Color, women, and the LGBTQIA community.
And it couldn’t have come at a more crucial moment.
Not only is the music industry reeling in the wake of COVID-19, but it’s also facing a long-overdue reckoning due to its lack of diversity, from songwriters and producers to sound engineers and tour promoters.
In fact, according to recent research, just 21% of popular artists are women, 12% are songwriters, and only 2% are producers. And the stats are even bleaker for Women of Color.
It’s clear the music industry needs to change—and Noelle is leading the way.
